UPDATE: The State Room's Facebook page offers a more detailed description of the concept, and indeed confirms the involvement of Principle Cigars. The space will be divided between a large cigar lounge, billiard parlor and two outdoor patios. Beverage offerings will include whiskeys, liqueurs, champagnes and wines by the glass, along with cheese boards and desserts.
As for the cigars, it promises "a range of rare boutique selections in addition to pre-embargo Cuban cigars and vintage examples that date back to the 1800s." It will also apparently play host to the 2016 Cigar Smoking World Championship.
A Demonbreun Hill retail space with a somewhat troubled past is getting another chance, as a new concept called The State Room is in the early stages of opening.
Located at 1530 Demonbreun Street next to Just Love Coffee, a temporary "Coming Soon' sign is up in front of the space, touting "Cigars. Billiards. Whiskey. Wine." An online search comes up with a Twitter account for the new project, which appears to have an affiliation with Principle Cigars, a local cigar maker owned and operated by Darren Cioffi.
The space has been vacant for over a year and a half, with The Pavilion Kitchen and Bar having closed early last year after a very short run and some financial problems. Prior to that it was home to Red Rooster, another restaurant and bar.
