John Egerton, a journalist and author best known for his writings regarding the Civil Rights movement and southern food, passed away this morning of unknown causes in Nashville at the age of 78, the Tennessean reports. Egerton was one of the founders of the Southern Foodways Alliance and author of Southern Food: At Home, On the Road, In History, as well as many other articles and books on social and cultural issues in the South.
