Late yesterday word started circulating that Watanabe Sushi Bar, long one of East Nashville's few options for sushi and Asian eats, would be closing. And sure enough, it's confirmed, as the following announcement was posted to the restaurant's Facebook page earlier today:
Dear friends,After some agonizing consideration I have come to the decision not to renew my Lease at Watanabe.I have informed our wonderful staff that our last day of business will be November 16th.In order to give our staff and our loyal customers the opportunity to say goodbye and celebrate 6 great years together we will keep our normal hours of operation this week, and starting Monday Nov.10th we will only be open for Happy Hour and Dinner from 4:30pm to 9:30 pm.We hope you will come and see us at least one more time. You don't need a reservation but we would love to know that you are coming...226-1112 so we can be prepared to give you the great food and service you expect from us.I wish to take this time to thank everyone for their support and their business: I appreciate you hanging in there with us all these years.SincerelyMatt Charette and the entire Watanabe Staff
No word yet on the exact reasons for the shutter or what might take its place. But head on over to pay your respects, and be sure to check back for updates.
