Food Truck Smokin Thighs Going Bricks & Mortar

Rendering of Proposed Smokin Thighs

Smokin Thighs, the popular 'gourmet food truck' specializing in chicken of the smoked and grilled variety, has announced plans for a stand-alone restaurant. To be located at 611 Wedgewood Avenue near the fairgrounds in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood, the bricks and mortar location will take over what was formerly the home of Judge Beans Bar-B-Que. Matthew Carney, owner/operator, tells Eater that they will be serving all of the familiar favorites from their roaming kitchen, as well as expanding the menu to include 'gourmet' chicken burgers using ground chicken instead of the usual white breast, and a section consisting of 'build your own' mac & cheese with toppings ranging from jalapenos and tomatoes to pineapple. The 2,100-square-foot existing structure will be gutted and the exterior taken back to pre-Judge Bean days, when it housed a neighborhood grocery and deli. A nearly 700-square-foot patio will also be added to the side of the building. In total Carney hopes to have seating for 80. He also points out that the location won't take the place of the truck, which will continue to operate. Be sure to check back soon for more details.
