Midtown's Union Common to Open August 18

Finishing touches going on the bar at Union Common

Things have been quiet for months regarding Union Common, the 'social concept steakhouse' from Louisville-based restaurant group DC Management. But today word is out that the new restaurant, which will also have a focus on small shared plates along with wine and whiskey, will open next Monday. Executive chef and co-owner Bobby Benjamin, who previously spent time in Nashville as the opening chef of Flyte World Dining and Wine, is overseeing the kitchen, with chef de cuisine Jason Mccollum to take the reins once the restaurant is up and running. Menu items will range from snacks such as escargot and hot sweetbreads, 'Common Classics' like their take on a Big Mac, 'The Union Mac,' to a 32-ounce bone-in ribeye and a variety of house-made ice creams. Co-owner and master sommelier (the only one to operate in Tennessee) Brett Davis is overseeing the beverage program along with sommelier Justin Moore, who most recently held the same position at 360 Bistro. Nearly 200 wines will be available, including ten on tap, along with over 100 varieties of whiskey. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, with brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Reservations will be available via OpenTable starting opening day.
