The Vine Is Coming to Fifth and Main

Work is underway on The Vine, a new restaurant and wine bar slated for East Nashville's Fifth and Main development. Taking over the space previously occupied by Feast, Germantown Cafe East and Allium, the restaurant will feature American fare, including steaks and seafood, as well as a focus on wine by the glass. Greg Swafford, a Middle Tennessee native and a long time veteran of the management and operations side of the restaurant business, is behind the project. Swafford recently moved back to Nashville after spending nearly two years as the director of purchasing for the Landry's family of restaurants based out of Houston, Texas. Prior to that he held the same position with Texas Roadhouse, as well as working in town for Logan's in a similar capacity for six years.

Says Swafford regarding the concept:

We're going to be as farm-to-table as we possibly can be. The menu is still in development, but a little over sixty percent of it will be staple items. The rest will be specials and just inspiration from the chef. The name of the restaurant, The Vine, obviously references the wine aspect, but it also is about growing, and allowing the people that work here, the chef, the flexibility to take raw ingredients and have some fun with them.

On the beverage side, the wine list will consist of over 20 by the glass options, available in various size pours, with approximately 50 by the bottle. Swafford says that the wines will be moderately priced labels that aren't traditionally found in wine shops. They will also offer specials, such as 'Winesdays,' where glasses are half price, and tasting events with wines from different regions around the world.

The restaurant, which is aiming for an opening sometime in September, is getting a bit of a face lift, with some additional walls being added to make the space more intimate. The plan is to be open seven days a week, with lunch and dinner Monday through Friday and brunch and dinner on the weekends.
