Future Uncertain for Planned Smith and Lentz Brewery After Fire Heavily Damages Property

New, 1 comment

It appears that plans may now be up in the air regarding recently announced SoBro small-batch brewery Smith & Lentz, as the property they are leasing and planning to convert into a brewery and taproom caught fire this past Tuesday morning. Located at 537 5th Avenue South across from Czann's Brewing, several local news outlets reported the blaze, describing the property as simply a 'vacant home,' but some renovation work had begun on the taproom. Brewery owners Kurt Smith and Adler Lentz took to social media yesterday evening, stating that '[t]here was significant fire damage at the brewery property that is still under investigation[,]' and that they 'are working on determining the best way forward for [their] brewery and business.' The cause of the fire is not yet clear, but News Channel 2-WKRN reported that 'the fire is being investigated as suspicious.'
