The first restaurant tenant has been announced for the currently under construction Eighth South mixed-use development, as Babalu Tapas & Tacos plans to take up residence.

Set to open in mid-2017 at the former Colonial Bakery site, The Tennessean reports that the restaurant, which is owned by Amerigo’s founders Bill Latham and Al Roberts via their Eat Here Brands group, has leased a 5,000-square-foot corner space, with an outdoor patio planned as well. Babalu, which currently has five locations (including one in Memphis) and another five on the way, serves up a menu of tapas, tacos, tortas and other items, with lunch and dinner offered seven days a week, along with weekend brunch.

Eat Here Brands also operates Table 100 Restaurant & Bar in Flowood, Miss., as well as Interim Restaurant & Bar in Memphis.

An as-yet-undisclosed breakfast concept is also slated for the development.
