While the number of Nashville restaurant and bar openings continue at a rapid pace, the city's doughnut scene has been much slower to grow, dominated over the years primarily by chains. We've seen a few promising additions come and go, like DOH Nashville's creative offerings. But then there is Five Daughters Bakery, which has expanded rapidly, opening three locations in less than a year. So while the number is small, these four spots are your best bets for getting your doughnut fix.

Location: 15 Hermitage Ave (Crema Coffee)
Utterly Nashville is the project of Mayme Gretsch, a former pastry chef at The Catbird Seat. Her doughnut creations, ranging from Madagascar vanilla to Boston cream-filled, have amassed quite the following, meaning you'll need to get up early in order to score one. They are currently available Friday through Sunday at Crema coffee shop.
FIVE DAUGHTERS BAKERY
Location: 1110 Caruthers Ave, Nashville, TN 37204
Five Daughters Bakery opened its stand-alone brick and mortar store in 12 South last year and has since drawn consistent crowds lining up for a taste of its 100 layer doughnuts. The bakery recently opened an East Nashville location, giving Nashvillians and visitors another option for picking up these popular treats. For those who don't like waiting in line, check out the "DonutCam" that lets patrons keep an eye on the crowd and the inventory before making the trek to the shop. Five Daughters' doughnuts can also be found at their store inside The Factory at Franklin and at all Barista Parlor locations.
