Cocktail Bar and Hangout Bastion Opens Tonight in Wedgewood-Houston

It's one of the year's most anticipated openings.

Justin Chesney
The first phase of one of the most secretive restaurant and bar openings in recent memory is now ready to be revealed, as Bastion, a "casual watering hole" and Wedgewood-Houston's first proper cocktail bar, opens for business tonight.

Josh Habiger, Strategic Hospitality's culinary director, and the Goldberg brothers' restaurant group have partnered to create a laid back hangout in the east end of Houston Station. Matt Tocco, Strategic's beverage director, and Michael McCollum, a Patterson House alum and now head bartender at Bastion, are offering a menu of inventive cocktails, including punches and frozen drinks, with beer and wine also available.

But what of the food? As of right now the bar is serving meat and vegetarian nachos only. But there is a restaurant component in a separate but connecting space currently in the works, which Habiger and the folks at Strategic Hospitality are staying characteristically tight-lipped about. So expect more details on that in the coming weeks.

The space itself is open and relaxed, featuring high ceilings, exposed brick walls, built-in bleachers, an indoor pergola and a long bar.

Hours will be 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
