UPDATED (5/13/16): A little last minute change of plans for Bastion's restaurant opening, as chef/partner Josh Habiger announced via social media this afternoon that they will be opening tonight at 5:30 instead of next Wednesday, seating guests in groups of up to four first come, first serve.
Soon you'll be able to eat more than a nice plate of nachos at Wedgewood-Houston's Bastion, as chef and partner Josh Habiger plans to open the restaurant portion of the project next Wednesday, May 18 tonight at 5:30.
According to an announcement Habiger, who along with Strategic Hospitality opened the bar side of Bastion three months ago to the day, will be running a 1,000-square-foot, 24-seat restaurant in the space adjacent to the existing bar. Geared towards walk-ins but offering limited reservations, Habiger and his team will be serving two different menus: the "Feast," which will be a multi-course menu focusing on shared and large format dishes; and a separate a la carte menu. The multi-course menu will be available with reservations for groups of four to six, with the a la carte menu available for walk-ins.
Joining him in the kitchen are Catbird Seat alum Tom Bayless and Patrick Carroll, who was most recently working in the kitchen at Doug Flicker's Piccolo in Minneapolis, Minn. Knoxville-native Chelsey Johnson will oversee the beverage program and former Catbird Seat beverage director Adam Binder will continue to operate as the general manager for both the bar and restaurant.
The restaurant itself is accessed through a sliding metal door to the right of the bar area. Inside are ten bar stools and three tables featuring maple tops. Black Moroccan tiles, blackened oak wood and original brick walls round out the interior aesthetic.
Reservations open this Wednesday via the Bastion website and can be made one week in advance. Hours will be Wednesday through Saturday 5:30 to 9:45 p.m.
