UPDATED (3/21/17): It’s a quick turnaround for the former Cantina Laredo location, as we now know that Sunda, a popular Asian restaurant and bar out of Chicago, is taking over the space.
Cantina Laredo, the Mexican chain restaurant that has occupied a prominent corner in the Gulch for the past eight years, closed its doors sometime over this past weekend.
Located at 592 12th Avenue South in the ground floor of the Icon in the Gulch, no announcement was made of the impending closure, but a notice posted on the restaurant’s front door today reads: “WE WILL MISS YOU. We enjoyed serving you and hope to see you in another of our restaurants soon.”
Cantina Laredo’s closing is the latest in a string of major restaurant changes in the Gulch. Just in the past six months the area has seen the opening of the Thompson Nashville hotel with John Besh’s three outlets, Little Octopus taking over the former Ru San’s Sushi space and Tom Morales opening seafood spot Fin & Pearl. Milk & Honey recently began construction in the Gulch Crossing property, and Starbucks should be opening soon in the former Bond Coffee location.
There will no doubt be another restaurant taking over the now vacant spot, so if you have any intel, do be sure to send it on to the tipline.
