With the start of the new year, Sylvan Park has lost one of its more promising restaurants and bars, as Bajo Sexto Taco Lounge has permanently shuttered.
Initially closed for the holidays, the Oaxacan-leaning eatery had not yet reopened in the new year, and a pre-recorded message on the restaurant’s voicemail currently states that it would be closed for the winter months. But a representative tells Eater Nashville that it is indeed closed for good, stating that they thought the neighborhood would be conducive to the Bajo Sexto brand, but that they are now looking for other locations that would be a better fit.
Opened in the spring of 2016, Bajo Sexto Taco Lounge offered talented young chef Kaelin Ulrich a venue to showcase his skills, with a greatly expanded menu compared to taco shop Bajo Sexto, its casual sibling in downtown’s Country Music Hall of Fame. But Ulrich left the restaurant approximately a year after opening, and the neighborhood never quite seemed to embrace the concept as its own.
