One of Nashville’s Favorite Pop-Up Chefs is Launching a Restaurant

VEA Supper Club’s Vivek Surti is opening a South Asian American restaurant at 1300B 3rd Ave. North in Germantown sometime this year. The pop-up luminary’s restaurant, named Tailor Nashville, will hold true to its supper club roots, promising that that 2,000-square-foot space will feel like walking into a dinner party — welcoming guests with food and drinks upon entering the establishment. Tucked inside the back room of Tandy Wilson’s new Mop/Broom Mess Hall, Tailor Nashville promises a fresh and unique menu, high touch service, and plenty of drinks, too.

The details at Tailor — from its name to the food he’ll serve — are reflections of Surti’s heritage. Tailor is a family name representing the occupation of his ancestors for many generations, and the South Asian American menu is a nod to Surti being a first-generation American of Indian descent.

Surti says many of his dishes are representative of the Gujarati meals he grew up eating as a child, dishes that are American, as well as dishes inspired by travel. The tailor-made dining experience promises to be unlike anything else in town: the restaurant will open for two dinner services, at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. four nights a week, Thursday through Sunday.

The 40-seat restaurant will offer eight to ten dishes, starting with snacks on the table, followed by a series of courses, presented as a comfortable, modern dinner party that sparks conversation. Surti will offer brief stories between courses to give guests context to the food they are served.

Partnering with Surti on this venture is Heather Southerland, an owner/partner of Frothy Monkey. She will bring her front-of-house expertise service to Tailor.
