This morning the James Beard Foundation released its list of semifinalists in the 2018 Restaurant and Chef Awards. Over the next month, this "long list" will be pared down, with the finalists announced on Wednesday, March 14. The 2018 James Beard Awards Gala will be held at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on Monday, May 7.
Here’s the list of Nashville semifinalists:
Best New Restaurant: Henrietta Red
Outstanding Pastry Chef: Lisa Marie White, Marsh House
Outstanding Restaurateur: Benjamin Goldberg and Max Goldberg, Strategic Hospitality (Pinewood Social, The Patterson House, The Catbird Seat, and others)
Best Chef (Southeast): Josh Habiger, Bastion
Best Chef (Southeast): Andy Little, Josephine
Best Chef (Southeast): Margot McCormack, Margot Café & Bar
Other semifinalists representing Tennessee include Cassidee Dabney of The Barn at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tenn. (Best Chef: Southeast) and Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman of Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen in Memphis (Best Chef: Southeast).
Another nominee with local ties is Steve Palmer with The Indigo Road out of Charleston, South Carolina. Nominated for ‘Outstanding Restaurateur,’ Palmer opened an outpost of Oak Steakhouse in SoBro last summer, and sushi spot O-Ku is slated for Germantown later this year.
