WEST NASHVILLE - Melrose-area coffee shop 8th & Roast Coffee Co. is expanding, opening a 3,000-square-foot coffeehouse and roastery at 4104 Charlotte Pike in the new Sylvan Station development. Reed Hospitality, which includes brothers Ed and Sam Reed, along with Q-Juan Taylor, purchased 8th & Roast, which was founded in 2009, in March 2017. [NBJ/EaterWire]

GREEN HILLS - Restaurant news in the Green Hills neighborhood is a bit of a rarity, but Austin-based Freebirds World Burrito will finally open its doors on Tuesday, March 27. Only the second Freebirds’ store to open east of the Mississippi, the new location at 3800 Hillsboro Pike will be the first to offer a breakfast menu from 7 to 10:30 a.m. daily, as well as curbside pick-up. 12 SOUTH - Firepot Tea Bar will soon make its debut in the 12 South neighborhood, as an early April opening is now the target. Located at 2905 12th Ave. S., the first brick and mortar venture from Firepot Nomadic Tea founder Sarah Scarborough will offer a variety of teas, as well as small bites and grab-and-go drinks. BELLEVUE - One Bellevue Place will soon be home to a new restaurant from a competitive barbecue vet, as HoneyFire Barbeque is slated to open in the development later this summer. Owner Shane Nasby, who has been running the business as a catering company for the past few years, tells the Scene that the restaurant will seat around 100 customers inside, with seating for another 70 on the outdoor patio. EAST NASHVILLE - A commercial property located at 1414 Dickerson Pike is in line for a major upgrade, as Lyon Porter, owner of popular east side bed & breakfast Urban Cowboy, is teaming up with investors to revamp the Key Motel. According to the Nashville Business Journal, the hotel will include approximately 26 ‘affordable’ rooms, along with a pool and a yet-to-be-determined food and beverage outlet. [NBJ]

FRANKLIN - After nearly 80 years in business, one of Nashville’s oldest restaurants is going into expansion mode, as Elliston Place Soda Shop is opening a second location in Cool Springs. Slated for the former home of Puffy Muffin at 330 Mayfield Dr., the old school soda parlor, which nearly closed its original location back in 2011 due to a looming rent increase, should open by this summer. THE NATIONS - Starting March 19, West Nashville will be home to the city’s first dedicated food truck park. Dubbed ‘Food Truck City,’ owners Cody and Kristin Walker say that the property at 5001 Louisiana Ave. will play host to a half dozen food trucks, starting with lunch only Monday through Saturday. Outdoor lighting and seating for approximately 30 are also part of the plan. [NBJ]

8TH AVENUE SOUTH - New bakery Baked on 8th is currently under construction at 1512 Eighth Ave. S. Husband and wife owners Adam and Leah Carmean are anticipating a mid-spring opening, with the bakery serving cakes, pies, and other desserts, along with coffee. [Nashville Scene]
