Close to six years since opening his widely acclaimed Germantown restaurant Rolf and Daughters, chef/owner Philip Krajeck is now preparing to unveil his highly anticipated second effort, the pizza-centric Folk, later today.
Located at 823 Meridian St. in McFerrin Park, the 96-seat neighborhood restaurant and bar is a passion project for Krajeck long in the making, providing him with an outlet to share his love of pizza.
The space is quite simple compared to the majority of restaurants opening in Nashville these days, and that’s not on accident. Krajeck says that Folk is meant to be a functional neighborhood hangout, a place for repeat visits. Broken down between the main bar and dining room, two walls of windows allow plenty of natural light, with original brick walls and light wood adding to the pared down aesthetic. Seating ranges from first come first served at the bar to two and four-tops in the main dining room with a view of the open kitchen.
Similar to Rolf and Daughters, potted plants are featured prominently throughout, with custom artwork from Nashville-based artists Alex Lockwood and Paul Collins.

The dinner menu is broken down between snacks, small plates with a vegetable-heavy lean, larger mains, and of course pizzas. Dishes range from ramp toast and beef fillet americanne to pork milanesa and fermented potato pizza pies. The beverage program will have a focus on natural wines, with a rotating by-the-glass list, regional brews, and specialty cocktail list from Rolf and Daughters bar manager Shane O’brien. And pastry chef Sam Short will be pulling double duty, adding her creative desserts to Folk’s menu.
