Change is slowly but surely coming to East Nashville’s Dickerson Pike corridor. First it was the closing of Charlie Bob’s last spring. Then came the recent announcement that the team behind Urban Cowboy would be revamping the Key Motel. And now the commercial thoroughfare is set to welcome Retrograde Coffee, its first coffee shop, later this year.
Co-founder Nathan Weinberg tells Eater Nashville that he, along with his business partners Steve Mabee and Davey Mabee, plan to open Retrograde at 1305 Dickerson Pike at the beginning of July. The space, located just a block north of Douglas Ave., has been home to a number of businesses over the years.
Weinberg says that Retrograde will be open seven days a week, serving drip coffee “that you can’t find in Nashville” and pastries from an as-yet-unnamed local bakery. It will also have a seasonally rotating roster of specialty coffee drinks, along with alcohol, with Weinberg stating that he hopes to be able to offer a selection of beers on tap from East Nashville breweries closer to the end of the year.
The interior will have an art deco lean, with seating for roughly 60 inside and approximately 10 tables on the outdoor deck.
Keep up with the coffee shop’s progress on social media, and be sure to check back for more updates.
