The long wait for fresh flour tortillas, tacos, and queso at East Nashville’s new Tex-Mex joint Redheaded Stranger is finally over. Chef Bryan Lee Weaver and restaurateur Michael Shemtov of Butcher & Bee announced that the restaurant, inspired by Weaver’s childhood spent in Texas, will open early next week.
With a newly updated address of 305 Arrington Street on the East side, Redheaded Stranger is the newest addition to the East side’s McFerrin Park neighborhood — joining forces with Folk and the upcoming restaurant complex from Sean Brock.
The restaurant’s name, Redheaded Stranger, is a nod to Weaver’s favorite Willie Nelson album (which was personally approved by the Nelson family).
Weaver’s menu is inspired by traditional Southwest dishes and ingredients like breakfast tacos, Hatch green chilies, brisket, and homemade tortillas.
Eight tacos are on the menu — all come served on house-made flour tortillas. Choose from a chopped brisket taco with eggs, cheese, and arbol hot sauce, barbacoa with black beans and pico, or a tater tor taco with jalapeño crema, hatch chiles, and American cheese.
The legendary whipped feta from Butcher & Bee even makes an appearance — smeared in a taco with poblanos, crispy rice and Weaver’s own Dreamweaver hot sauce. Weaver’s Hatch green chile burger, made with Bear Creek Farm beef and served with local Gifford’s bacon and house ranch, is an amped up take on the Santa Fe classic.

A classic breakfast burrito and queso with fresh tortillas round out the menu, along with daily specials like Frito Pie, chicken fried steak, and sopapillas. The daily dessert menu shows a banana pudding shake, which can be upgraded to adults-only with the addition of bourbon.
Redheaded Stranger’s menu for breakfast and lunch is available for dine-in and to-go, accompanied by a full bar and local Stay Golden coffee. Dinner service will be added in the coming months.
Once open, hours will begin as Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expanded hours and dinner will follow in the coming months.
