New York-born popular piano karaoke lounge Sid Gold’s Request Room is opening up its third location — this time right here in East Nashville (next to the old El Fuego on Gallatin).

Paul Devitt, who also founded Beauty Bar, opened the original karaoke venue with former Psychedelic Furs keyboardist Joe McGinty in 2015. A Detroit outpost opened in mid-2019 on the ground floor of the Siren Hotel. In the Nashville market Devitt partners with locals Keith Thompson, Glen Pangle, and Kira Small (who also plays piano at the bar, on occasion).

The Nashville location has a similar set-up as the first two — with cocktail bar in front and piano lounge in the back. The bar offers a similar menu to the New York and Detroit locations with a blend of classic cocktails (such as French 75s and Hemingway daiquiris) and music-inspired drinks like the Velvet Underground — with bourbon, lime, and velvet falernum. Sid Gold’s also offers beer and wine. Future karaoke crooners can order from a limited kitchen menu (full food and cocktail menu seen below) with snacks like pigs in a blanket, vegetarian egg rolls, and hummus plus heartier Cuban sandwich and a charcuterie spread.

Traditionally, Sid Gold’s is known for its eclectic approach to karaoke where customers can request songs and belt out their favorite tunes — anything from pop to punk to soul to classic rock — accompanied by a live pianist. The bar (which got its name from one of the investor’s fathers) also regularly showcases burlesque performances at both of its current locations — which will occur once a week in the Nashville space, eventually.

For now given COVID-19 restrictions, they’re opening up solely as piano bar —with a great lineup of talent including Micah Hulscher (plays with Margo Price, Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell), Randy Leago (plays with Duane Eddy, the Beach Boys, Shelby Lynne), Robbie Crowell (Deer Tick, Midland), and John Pahmer (Al Green, Yacht Rock).

Current Sid Gold’s Nashville hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 5 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
