This 4th of July weekend looks and feels quite different from those in years past. With the city reverting back to a modified version of Phase Two, the annual fireworks show cancelled, plus large gatherings banned, everything is much smaller and more intimate. In the spirit of still making the weekend special and tasty, quite a few Nashville restaurants have put together impressive and easily picked up spreads. Many are also open for dine-in service.
*A number of Nashville restaurants have resumed dine-in service. The level of service offered is indicated on each map point. However, this should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: for updated information on coronavirus cases in your area, please visit the state’s website. Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines.
Takeout Options
400 Degrees Hot Chicken
Just for the 4th, the expert hot chicken spot is offering a spicy grilled cheese sandwich — that’s a gooey, melt-y sandwich made between that famous hot chicken-sopped bread. Pair it with the exclusive new Yazoo hot chicken coalition ale or a glass of rose to cut the heat. Order online here.
The 404 Kitchen featuring American BBQ with Jake Wood
Just for July 2-4, NC’s Jake Wood of Lawrence BBQ is cooking with Matt Bolus at the 404 Kitchen. Available as a takeout feast or for dining in, the menu in celebration of the USA (shown below) leads off diners with a choice of smoked wings, pimento Boursin cheese, or an heirloom tomato and stonefruit salad, then takes them into a July 4-friendly selection of shared entree spreads. Smoked meat selections include Texas-style brisket, sticky ribs, smoked-fried chicken wings, and pulled pork. More information is available on the website. Pre-order Carry Out serves two to three people, for $120. Dine In Prix Fixe, available for a minimum of two people, runs $48 per person.
D’Andrews Bakery & Cafe
The downtown pastry purveyor has put together a special July 4th picnic box, available for preorder by Friday, July 3 at 2 p.m. Inside the box? pork belly sliders and sides plus a classic s’mores kit stuffed with homemade marshmallows and graham crackers. Limited quantities available. Kits are $62 for curbside pick-up or dine-in, and $70 delivered. The picnic boxes serve 4 people, and can be ordered here.
Deacon’s New South
The historic L&C Building’s Southern-influenced steak house has an appealing steak and wine option for the occasion. For $75, you get a 32-ounce dry-aged tomahawk and a bottle of house cab. Or just grab the tomahawk for $55 and pack a cooler of beer. Call 615-994-1994 to order.
Lou
The cozy Riverside Village restaurant with the newly renovated patio is offering a trio of desserts for takeout. Choose from a mixed berry pie, citrus bars, or buckwheat cake with peanut filling — all available for pickup on Friday, July 23. Tack on a brown bag lunch, picnic sac, or wine to your order for a complete spread.
Martin’s BBQ
The whole hog chain has pitmaster combos and family suppers, available for pick-up on the 4th. They’ve got pulled pork (of course) but also baby back ribs, brisket, chicken, turkey, and more. Meaty options feed up to 12 people, and can be ordered online here.
Peg Leg Porker
The Gulch purveyor of smoked meats offers a family feast that fills up 5-7 people, for $99. It comes with 2 full racks of ribs, half a pound of pulled pork, buns, sides, and sauce — plus a quart of banana pudding. Available for curbside pick-up and walk-up orders.
