Eighth Avenue Greek diner Athens Family Restaurant, open for 16 years, will serve its last homestyle meals in its current location on May 30.
Owner Mohammed Rasras told the Nashville Scene he hopes to relocate nearby but said he’ll need an investor to make it happen as the restaurant was already struggling post-pandemic before the lease was cancelled.
According to the Nashville Scene, Rasras subleases the spot at 2526 Eighth Ave South from his former business partner Dina Kazakos-Elostta, who canceled the lease (it had four years remaining) after Rasras missed two rent payments during the pandemic. In January of this year, Rasras created a GoFundMe to try and recoup funds for overdue rent, utilities, and payroll. As of today, the account has raised just $1,635.
Until May 30, Athens Family Restaurant is open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with takeout and delivery plus patio dining options available.
