The 404 Kitchen is getting plenty of buzz for chef Matt Bolus' food, but take note: the cocktails here are no slouch. Travis Brazil runs the beverage program, which includes a strong selection of Japanese whiskys. And barman Damien Breaw, a veteran of The Hermitage Hotel's Oak Bar, knows how to make 'em just right.

2. Pinewood Social

The Goldberg brothers' Pinewood Social is many things, including a top-flight cocktail house. Which makes sense, since Matt Tocco, a veteran of The Patterson House and Rolf and Daughters, is heading up the beverage program. The ever-evolving list features some of the best names for cocktails around, such as 'Sword of D'Artagnan' and 'A Stranger in the Alps'. And even though the weather is starting to turn, don't forget about those outdoor pool cocktails with more great names like 'Delusions of Adequacy.'

3. Bar No. 308

A true bartender's bar. From the house-made sodas, to the always inventive cocktail selection put together by co-owner/one of Nashville's best barmen Ben Clemons, No.308 does it right.

4. Holland House Bar & Refuge

Holland House was first to bring the cocktail bar to East Nashville. With an extensive list of seasonally rotating libations, it's hard to go wrong. And even with a number of recent changes behind the bar, this cocktail den still holds its own.

5. Husk

This much-praised outpost of the Charleston original has drinks to rival the food, sourcing ingredients from the onsite garden and changing offerings frequently. And while not really a cocktail, be sure to ask for a rundown of their off-menu Pappy Van Winkle selection.

6. The Patterson House

Nashville, TN 37203

7. Rolf & Daughters

Nashville, TN 37208

With all of the national attention Rolf and Daughters is getting for the food, doesn't it make sense that it would have a stellar cocktail program as well? The seasoned crew serves up a tight list of interesting, ever-evolving concoctions.

8. The Sutler

2608 Franklin Road
Nashville, TN 37204
This recently opened re-imagined version of the original much loved 8th Avenue watering hole has a little bit of everything, including separate cocktail menus for the upstairs 'saloon' and the downstairs 'cellar.' The cellar space is essentially dedicated to booze, offering a wide range of specialty cocktails and more liquor options than its upstairs counterpart.
