There’s something new on the way

Broadway bar staple Paradise Park Trailer Resort will shut down next month to make way for something brand new from Strategic Hospitality. The restaurant group owned by brothers Benjamin and Max Goldberg holds numerous Nashville big-name properties like The Catbird Seat, Pinewood, The Patterson House, Henrietta Red’s, and more. The duo started Paradise Park in 2007.

Strategic Hospitality’s communications director Tara Tocco Goldberg had this to say on the Broad Varieties blog:

Nashville has changed tremendously in the time since Paradise Park opened so this is a chance for a fresh start in an evolving city. The new business going in to 411 will cover all three floors and the rooftop. In the same vein as other Strategic Hospitality restaurants, the food and cocktail menus will be spot-on. A lot of time and attention has gone in to the building’s history, and it will be reflected in the design and details when the new concept opens. We’re excited to stay in 411 and build a new legacy, and we promise to keep our side of Broadway fun.

Located at 712 51st Ave. North, coffee shop owner Dave Trett tells the Nashville Post that they assumed the lease from House owner Kyle McPhee, and plan to open in early June. McPhee opened House in July of 2016, taking over what was previously home to The Stone Fox. But that stretch of street has since become home to a number of watering holes, including Nations Bar & Grill, The Original Corner Pub, and 51 North Taproom and Grill, greatly increasing competition for people’s drinking dollars.

Trett, who owns and operates Red Bicycle locations in Germantown and Woodbine, has had his eyes on expansion to The Nations for quite some time, with The Tennessean reporting in the fall of 2015 that Trett had planned on bringing a new coffee shop and restaurant venture to The Phoenix property, a newish development on 51st Ave. North that is now home to Bare Bones Butcher.

The second oldest restaurant in Nashville is calling it quits

After 96 years in business, The Pie Wagon, a meat-and-three known as a go-to back in its heyday for Nashville’s music industry community, will close its doors after lunch service tomorrow.

According to The Tennessean the closure, first announced on the restaurant’s Facebook page earlier this week, is due to Metro Water Department mandated plumbing upgrades that owner David Biggs has deemed “too expensive to do and stay profitable.”

The Pie Wagon, the second oldest restaurant in Nashville (behind 110-year-old chili parlor Varallo’s) has had several incarnations throughout the years. Originally housed in a trolley car in The Gulch, the restaurant moved to a building on 12th Ave. North in the 1960s, eventually landing at its current location at 1302 Division St.

So for those looking to make one last visit, the restaurant will be open until 2 p.m. tomorrow.

The Hayes Street property appears to once again be in transition

The revolving restaurant door that is the 1808 Hayes St. property in Midtown appears to once again be in motion, as Italian restaurant Tartufo has closed its doors.

No official announcement has been made, but the closure appears to have occurred sometime after March 20, the date of the restaurant’s last post to social media. A tipster sent Eater Nashville a photo of a note posted on the restaurant’s front door that simply states ‘Closed Until Further Notice,’ with a number for Don McGhee, CEO of McGhee Entertainment and part owner of Tartufo, provided for questions. A representative at his office confirmed with Eater that Tartufo was indeed closed, but declined to comment on any other specifics.

Opened in mid-2016, Tartufo was the fourth restaurant in a little over five years to call the house on Hayes St. home. Previous tenants include Mambu (closed New Year’s Eve 2012), Rosebud (closed May 2013), and Magnolia South (closed August 2015).
